The appointment of Daniel Noble Awuley as the Municipal Chief Executive of the Hohoe Municipal Assembly in the Volta region has been rescinded by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The notice of dismissal was sent by letter on Monday, March 25, 2024. O.B. Amoah, Minister of State in the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development, endorsed the paper, which cited legal and constitutional grounds as justification for the decision.
The letter states that the action is based on Section 20 (3) (b) of the Local Governance Act 2016 (Act 936) and Article 243 (3) (b) of the Constitution.
“Therefore, you are to transfer your responsibilities to the Hon. Regional Minister, who will oversee the Municipal Assembly’s operations until a new Municipal Chief Executive is confirmed,” the letter added.
The request is made via a copy of this letter to the Hon. Regional Minister to assume oversight duties of the Municipal Assembly while the appointment of a new Municipal Chief Executive is being confirmed.
Francis Fiakpui was nominated by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, to be the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Hohoe Municipal Assembly.
In a statement released on Monday, O. B. Amoah, the Minister of State for the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development, directed the Volta Regional Minister to work with the regional election commission to expedite Mr. Fiakpui’s confirmation procedure.
In compliance with Section 20 (1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936) and Article 243 (1) of the 1992 Constitution, H. E. the President has proposed Francis Fiakpui, the undersigned, for the position of Municipal Chief Executive, subject to Hohoe Municipal Assembly approval.
