The University of Media Arts and Communication (UniMAC) undertook a massive tree planting exercise to commemorate National Tree Planting Day in Ghana at its campuses on Monday, 10th June 2024. The occasion, dubbed the “Plant a Tree Initiative,” aimed to encourage students to protect the environment and plant more trees. It was also organized to help students understand the importance of practicing sustainable development to protect the earth.
Present at the ceremony were Dr. Daniel Odoom, Dean of the Faculty; Head of the Department of Integrated Social Sciences, Dr. Kodwo Jonas Anson Boateng; Mr. Daniel Obeng Acquah; Dr. Nana Aba Dawson-Ahmoah; Mrs. Patience Sowah (IJ Registrar); Dr. Abdullah of the Institute of Languages; and some students of the University.
Speaking during the exercise, the Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Daniel Odoom, urged students to cultivate the habit of planting trees on all major occasions. He also added that each student must own and nurture the trees they plant for as long as they study at the University.
This tree planting initiative was spearheaded by the Department of Integrated Social Sciences, a department in the Institute of Journalism. Over 150 tree seedlings of various varieties were planted by students on the various campuses of the University.
