Eastern Region had its session of the town meeting at the Center For National Culture on Tuesday 3rd September, 2024 to showcase various developmental initiatives under the government of President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. The event featured regional and district leaders, including Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong, the Eastern Regional Minister, who detailed numerous completed and ongoing projects that have significantly benefited the region.
In his speech, Hon. Seth Acheampong emphasized the value of displaying the government’s accomplishments over the past seven years. He discussed how the current administration initiated and completed projects with some ongoing. These programs have touched various sectors including education, healthcare, roads, and infrastructure.
Hon. Acheampong highlighted major achievements, including extensive road construction throughout the Eastern Region, expansions and provision of infrastructure in senior high schools to address the double-track system, and upgrading basic and junior high schools. He also mentioned ongoing projects like the Agenda 111 polyclinics in New Juaben North Municipality and Kwabeng in Atiwa West, a new Science Technology Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) school in Akyem Abomosu, and the establishment of the University of Environmental Science in Somanya.
Other significant developments include several ASTRO Turf parks, ongoing regional hospital constructions, and new court buildings in various districts, all designed to improve the efficiency of the judiciary. Hon. Acheampong’s presentation, supported by a detailed PowerPoint, underscored the administration’s commitment to advancing educational facilities, healthcare infrastructure, security, agriculture, and environmental sanitation.
Dr. Nsiah Asare, Presidential Advisor on Health, highlighted the government’s achievements in the health sector, particularly through the Agenda 111 initiative. He reported that 100 of the planned 111 hospitals are at various stages of completion. These hospitals aim to greatly improve healthcare access in underserved regions, addressing critical gaps in the national health delivery system. Dr. Asare reaffirmed the government’s commitment to equipping these facilities with modern resources to meet citizens’ healthcare needs and reduce pressure on existing facilities.
The Townhall meeting served as a platform for the government to affirm its dedication to development and accountability. Presentations by Hon. Acheampong and other officials illustrated how the Eastern Region has benefited from targeted investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and other essential areas, demonstrating the government’s commitment to improving the lives of Ghanaians.
The event also highlighted the work of the government across all the thirty- three (33) Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs), with local leaders presenting achievements from their areas. Hon. Fatimatu Abubakar praised the efforts of the regional and district officials and urged them to continue pursuing sustainable development that meets the needs of the population.
