Ghanaian actor Prince David Osei, known for his support of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has shared his perspective on the copyright dispute between Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and musician DJ Azonto. In a social media post on X on Friday, May 17, Osei raised an intriguing question regarding DJ Azonto’s management team, who call themselves Rolls Royce Family.
He inquired whether they had obtained authorization from the German-based automobile manufacturer BMW to use the name “Rolls Royce.”
Osei suggested that if DJ Azonto’s management has not received such approval, they might also be infringing on copyright and thus may lack the grounds to pursue their case against the Vice President.
The controversy stems from DJ Azonto’s claim that Dr. Bawumia and his campaign team used his song “Fa No Fom” without permission during a campaign trip to Nalerigu in the North East Region.
According to a statement from the Rolls Royce Family posted on social media, the Vice President’s team violated DJ Azonto’s intellectual property rights, and they are demanding $10 million in damages.
