The Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC) Meeting, an annual initiative organized by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), aims to promote peaceful elections among citizens and political parties. Established in 2018 in Abuakwa North, Eastern Region of Ghana, the committee plays a vital role in ensuring a harmonious electoral process.

This year’s meeting was held on September 10, 2024, at the NCCE Municipal Office. During an interview, Mrs. Beatrice N. Budu, the NCCE Municipal Director, underscored the committee’s mission to foster peace during elections in Abuakwa North. She highlighted the committee’s efforts in facilitating discussions and resolving election-related issues to promote a peaceful electoral atmosphere.

Mrs. Budu pointed out the logistical challenges the NCCE faces, particularly the lack of vehicles, which hampers their outreach efforts in educating citizens. Despite these constraints, the organization remains proactive by engaging the public through radio stations, markets, churches, and other community hubs. However, financial limitations continue to restrict their effectiveness in reaching a wider audience.

Emphasizing the need for a dedicated vehicle, Mrs. Budu appealed for support to enhance the NCCE’s educational outreach. She commended the cooperation among committee members, including the Electoral Commission, local religious leaders, security agencies, political figures, and other stakeholders, all of whom play a significant role in promoting voter education.

Mrs. Budu also recognized the valuable contributions of her staff, the Municipal Assembly, and NOPRAS FM for supporting the initiative aimed at ensuring peaceful elections. She encouraged the residents of Abuakwa North to vote responsibly and celebrate peacefully to avoid any potential violence.

In her closing remarks, Mrs. Budu stressed the importance of having a valid voter’s card, exercising patience during the voting process, and maintaining a peaceful demeanor following the announcement of election results. She emphasized that it is the collective responsibility of all citizens to contribute to a peaceful electoral process for the nation’s greater good.
