Hon. Dr. Gifty Twum-Ampofo, the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North Constituency and former Deputy Minister of Education responsible for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), has firmly denied any intentions of running as an independent candidate in the upcoming general elections.
Speaking to journalists on September 10, 2024, after inspecting various ongoing and near-completion projects in her constituency, Hon. Twum-Ampofo emphasized her loyalty to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) led by President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. She stated that her achievements as a public servant were largely due to the support and leadership of the current administration, and she remains committed to the party.
“God forbid any independent ambition from me. My success in politics was made possible by the benevolence of the Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia administration. I have served as an executive for seven years and as a Member of Parliament for eight years. It will never occur to me to go independent,” she affirmed.
Hon. Twum-Ampofo highlighted the significant infrastructure and human resource developments that have taken place in the Abuakwa North Constituency during her tenure. She credited these achievements to the collaborative efforts of the government and expressed confidence that future leaders would build upon her work to further improve the constituency.
She also reassured her constituents of her ongoing commitment, stating that she continues to reside in Kukuratumi whenever she is not engaged with parliamentary duties, and she will always be available to support and improve the community.
Furthermore, Hon. Twum-Ampofo urged Ghanaians to support Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for Abuakwa North, Nana Kwame Addo Ampaw Frempong, popularly known as Chief Buffalo. She called on voters to help the NPP break the eight-year electoral cycle, citing examples of countries like China, Singapore, and Malaysia, where extended governance has led to significant national development.
