National African Peer Review Mechanism Government Council (NAPRM-GC) has organized a knowledge empowerment program for African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) District Oversight Committees (DOCs) in Koforidua, Eastern Region of Ghana on the 25th March, 2024 on Ghana and African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

The program hosted by the Eastern Regional National Commission For Civic Education (NCCE) headed by Mrs. Ophelia Ankrah, received officials from NAPRM-GC, Municipal and District Civic Officers, Members of District Oversight Committees among others.

Mr David Asante-Apeatu, Council Member NAPRM -GC /Fmr IGP, in his introductory statement remarked that, Ghana’s journey within the APRM framework has been marked by significant strives since initial review 2006 and added that the ongoing efforts of NAPRM -GC has been instrumental in promoting good governance and facilitating positive change within our nation in the areas of peace, stability, growth and poverty reduction.

He explained that, the current targeted review emphasizes on corporate governance and it’s role in driving the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area and said, the endeavor holds profound implications on Ghana’s economic future and Africa as a whole.

Mr David Asante-Apeatu posited that, through extensive engagement from national and regional levels, stakeholders from diverse sectors have contributed valuable insights and perspectives from public companies to micro enterprises, each entity plays crucial role in shaping Ghana’s economic landscape and stands to benefit from enhanced corporate governance practices.

He continued that, the combination of these efforts is the targeted review of Ghana report, which provides the roadmap for the development of national program of action which seeks to empower businesses and strengthen their capacity to thrive within the AfCFTA.

He further lauded the District Oversight Committees as the grassroots advocates whose efforts have championed the path of good governance and community development.

Rev. (Mrs.) Angela Carmen Appiah, FloD, Institute Of Directors -Ghana, explained the role of corporate governance practice in enhancing Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) readiness for the AfCFTA market by Institute Directors whilst Mr Patric Adu Osei, presented highlights of Ghana’s Targeted Review on coporate governance as a catalyst to the implementation of the AfCFTA in Ghana.
