Afriyie Auspice International, a prominent non-governmental organization dedicated to social welfare and community development, has initiated a comprehensive drug abuse awareness campaign in Akyem Addonkwanta, located within the Abuakwa South Municipality of the Eastern Region on July 1, 2024.
The event, characterized by free health screenings, health talks on drug abuse, drama performances, fun games, free national health insurance registration and renewals, was a vibrant and engaging occasion aimed at educating and supporting the community.
Nana Akosua Owusua Aduomi I, the Akyem Anyinasin Sanaahene, chaired the program, which attracted over 900 attendees. In her remarks, she urged the youth to adhere to the education provided by Dr. Afriyie Bernard and his team of expertise and admonished parents to avoid excessive alcohol intake, warning that it could lead to alcoholism in their offspring and have detrimental effects on national development. She also expressed her gratitude to Afriyie Auspice International for organizing such a wonderful program and emphasized the need for similar educational efforts to continue in other communities.
Speaking at the launch event, the founder of Afriyie Auspice International, Dr. Afriyie Bernard, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all, especially the team from New Tafo Government Hospital’s Mental Health Department, Addonkwanta Epi Center, the Drug Free Club, Addonkwanta R/C Chapter and the media, for their invaluable support and collaboration in making the event a success.
“Our mission is to educate the youth and the wider community about the dangers of drug abuse and to provide the necessary support and resources to those affected. We believe that by raising awareness, we can prevent the devastating impacts of drug addiction and promote healthier, safer communities,” stated Dr. Bernard.
The event saw significant participation from local residents, community leaders, and various stakeholders who expressed their support for the initiative. Workshops, interactive sessions, and educational materials were provided to attendees, aiming to equip them with knowledge and strategies to combat drug abuse.
Afriyie Auspice International, based in Akyem Kukuratumi in the Abuakwa North Municipality of the Eastern Region, plans to extend the program to other regions, hoping to create a ripple effect of awareness and prevention efforts across the nation. The organization also seeks to collaborate with local authorities, schools, and other NGOs to ensure a sustained and unified approach to tackling this pressing issue.
