The Ghana Armed Forces in a press release dated 25th March, 2024 signed by

Brigadier General,
Director General Public Relations, has it that, the arrested L/Cp Opoku Eric, 27 years who claims to be a soldier stationed at Airborne -Tamale with staff ID No.AB699021 currently on operations duty at Bawku and on fourteen (14) days leave on grounds of attempted robbery by the Police at a mining site in Nyamesom near Kwabenakwa, Ashanti Region is not a soldier neither has the
institution deployed the said identified person to perform such duties at the said Mining Site.
He has no ties whatsoever with GAF. The statement clarified after their investigations.
The statement further, cautioned all persons who use military accoutrements without authorisation that they would be severely dealt with by the law when caught.
They also urged the public to promptly report suspicious persons in military uniforms to
the nearest military unit or police station for the necessary action to be taken.
The statement admonished media operators to cross check their information with the Department of
Public Relations before publishing stories that end up tarnishing the image of GAF.
