The Eastern Region hosted a Townhall meeting at the National Cultural Center, highlighting various developmental projects undertaken in the region under the leadership of President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. The event brought together regional and district leaders, including Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong, the Eastern Regional Minister, who outlined the numerous completed and ongoing projects that have significantly impacted the region.
In his address, Hon. Acheampong emphasized the importance of showcasing the government’s achievements over the past seven years, highlighting how the administration has continued and completed projects initiated by previous governments while also initiating new ones. He noted that the government’s efforts spanned various sectors, including education, healthcare, roads, and infrastructure development.
Hon. Acheampong highlighted thousands of kilometers of road construction across the Eastern Region, expansions of senior high schools to alleviate the double-track system, and the renovation and construction of basic and junior high schools. He also pointed to the ongoing Agenda 111 polyclinics being built in New Juaben North Municipality and Kwabeng in Atiwa West, the new STEM school in Akyem Abomosu, and the establishment of the University of Environmental Science in Somanya.
Other notable projects mentioned included the development of several ASTRO Turf parks, ongoing regional hospital constructions, and newly constructed court buildings in various districts, all aimed at enhancing the judiciary’s efficiency. Hon. Acheampong’s presentation, supported by a detailed PowerPoint demonstration, underscored the administration’s commitment to improving educational facilities, healthcare infrastructure, security, agriculture, and environmental sanitation.
During the event, Hon. Ernest Ofosu, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Fanteakwa South, presented the district’s achievements to the gathered officials, including Hon. Fati Abubakar, the Minister of Information, and other government dignitaries. Hon. Ofosu highlighted the district’s infrastructural developments, such as the construction of a new court building and bungalow, which he proudly noted were completed despite the DCE himself not having an official residence.
Hon. Ofosu elaborated on the district’s progress in improving agricultural practices, expanding health centers, and upgrading educational facilities from basic to senior high schools. He also touched on the construction of market centers, teachers’ bungalows, and feeder roads, which have boosted local commerce and improved access to rural areas. Furthermore, the district has made strides in youth skill training, security enhancements, sanitation improvements, and the extension of electricity to previously underserved communities.
The Townhall meeting served as a platform for the government to demonstrate its commitment to development and accountability. Hon. Acheampong and Hon. Ofosu’s presentations collectively highlighted how the Eastern Region has benefited from strategic investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and other critical sectors, reinforcing the government’s dedication to enhancing the lives of Ghanaians.
Hon. Fati Abubakar commended the regional and district officials for their efforts and encouraged them to continue working towards sustainable development that meets the needs of the people.
