Accra, Ghana – June 12, 2024: The Divisional Executives Council of the Public Services Workers’ Union (PSWU) of TUC (Ghana), NIA Division, has announced the suspension of its indefinite strike action which commenced on June 10, 2024. This decision follows interventions from key stakeholders and pending negotiations with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) scheduled for Friday, June 14, 2024.
Key interventions influencing this suspension included those from the Minister for National Security, an invitation from FWSC to negotiate, and advice from the mother union, the National Labour Commission’s ruling, and public sentiment.
The FWSC has expressed a commitment to engage in good faith negotiations. The PSWU emphasized that if the negotiations on June 14 do not result in the government granting Institution Specific Allowances, the union will resume industrial action.
Members of the union have been instructed to return to work on June 13, 2024. The union expressed gratitude for the solidarity and support shown by its members and the public during the strike.
The PSWU remains hopeful for a positive outcome from the upcoming negotiations and appreciates the media’s role in covering the developments.
