The Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North Constituency in the Eastern Region of Ghana, Honorable Gifty Twum-Ampofo, who previously served as the Deputy Minister of Education in charge of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), has called on Ghanaians, particularly women, to step into leadership roles within their communities, with a special emphasis on political involvement.
Speaking at a personality profile interview at the Miracle Center Assemblies of God Church in Akyem Osiem, Hon. Gifty Twum-Ampofo, affectionately known as Hajia Kande, expressed concern over the underrepresentation of women in the political sphere.
She highlighted the recent district-level elections in the Abuakwa North Municipality, where no women contested, describing this trend as disheartening and a barrier to progress.
Hon. Twum-Ampofo urged women to become self-reliant and to actively develop their capacities, stressing the importance of not relying on others, particularly men, for their advancement.
She emphasized the critical role of education—both formal and informal—in empowering women to achieve self-sufficiency and to take on leadership roles confidently.
During her address, Hon. Twum-Ampofo shared insights into her numerous developmental and human capacity-building projects accomplished during her eight-year tenure as a Member of Parliament.
Her dedication to community development and women’s empowerment has been a cornerstone of her political career.
In recognition of her contributions, Rev. Richard Afriyie of the Miracle Center Assemblies of God Church presented Hon. Twum-Ampofo with a citation, thanking her for her efforts and for sharing her inspiring journey and achievements with the congregation.
Rev. Afriyie remarked that her example serves as a powerful motivator for the youth and the entire community, encouraging socio-economic development in the constituency and beyond.
