Rt Rev Dr. E. K. Asare Kusi, Diocesan Bishop of Koforidua Methodist, expressed his endorsement of the chosen theme, stating it aligns well with the needs of contemporary students. He reflected on the school’s history and expressed gratitude for its achievements, while also encouraging students to strive for even greater accomplishments.
Acknowledging the support received from both parents and the government, Rt Rev Dr. E. K. Asare emphasized the importance of students working diligently to justify the investments made in their education. He also extended appreciation to the government for its significant contributions to the school’s development in terms of transportation, infrastructure, and other forms of assistance.
Mr. Seth Odame Darko, also known as Lelee3, the headmaster of Oyoko Methodist Senior High School, highlighted the school’s academic progress, noting that over 70% of its graduates have gained admission to various tertiary institutions. He emphasized the school’s endorsement of the Free Senior High School policy and its role as a leading educational institution in the Eastern Region.
Mr. Darko mentioned notable achievements, such as the Cadet Corps’ success in the regimental band competition and their invitation to the Jubilee House by President Nana Akufo-Addo. He appealed for support in addressing challenges faced by the school, particularly regarding infrastructure, including the need for tarred internal roads and additional teachers’ accommodations.
Representing the Eastern Regional Minister, Honorable Seth Kwame Acheapong, Professor Asante Antwi, Municipal Chief Executive of New Juaben North, underscored the importance of continued support from Parents/Teacher Associations in the region to enhance education. He commended the government’s efforts in making education more accessible through initiatives like the Free Senior High School policy, despite global economic challenges.
Professor Asante Antwi outlined the government’s commitment to improving educational standards, including plans for one teacher one laptop and the establishment of ICT centers in schools. He also highlighted the provision of essential infrastructure to schools across the region, including buses, classrooms, dormitories, and STEM education facilities.
The event was attended by dignitaries such as Professor Kwasi Ohemeng from Central University, Accra; traditional leaders from Oyoko; Very Rev. Joseph Dennis Boadu, Diocesan Bishop Elect, and other clergy members, as well as various headmasters of senior high schools and other officials.
